Using moon reader pro and have done for years with no issues, chapter 1 shows 12 pages, chapter 2 shows 22 and after the copywriter is the big one with 269 pages and that's everything in the book in that one big page

I have no issue when opening the EPUB file with Sumatra PDF on PC.
I have no issue when reading with Kindle Paperwhite 10th Gen (2018) (via Send to Kindle).
I don't have my Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen (2024) with me right now to check.

Just saying, Moon+ Reader Pro app is also updated frequently (last updated 25 Mar 2026), so there's a chance that the app developer breaks something in the recent updates, or you may be correct that the EPUB file is not in a standard format and Moon+ Reader Pro app doesn't like it while other apps have no issue with it.
You can try using Calibre to convert the EPUB file to other formats and see if the issue is fixed.
