You should mention which volumes have you read, so spoilers aren't given.
As a basic thing, (I wouldn't call these spoilers, it's just context)
The main story (about the main protagonist spider) is earlier in history than the S story by about 14 years (something like that). Lots of the events are explained/understood later. It's a great series to re-read
Short answer: I wouldn't say so, but it's a complicated story. You might think differently.
Long answer: Light spoilers ahead I guess don't remember whats written in which book well. The S story is about the reincarnations (including the dragon) as they grow up after being born as babies again, but as main protag became a spider instead, was able to start growing almost instantly rather than being unable to do anything as a baby. As you read farther, certain people places and events fall into place and the world fleshes out and it's really satisfying.
The answer your looking for is probably in book 5 when the S story ends, or book 6-7 when the main story starts developing quickly (as the S story is finished) and you meet a 《new》 cast of characters.
